ROME, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Russians Anastasia Davydova and Svetlana Romashina won the synchronized swimming technical duet at the World Championships here on Tuesday.
They scored 98.667 points to beat perennial bridesmaids Spain (97.333) into second with Chinese twins Jiang Tingting and Jiang Wenwen pipping Asian rivals Japan for the bronze medal.
The Russians had been the favourites from the start as they headed qualifying for the final with an even better score of 98.833.
For Spaniard Gemma Mengual, who partnered Andrea Fuentes here, it was yet another silver medal having also finished second behind another Russian, Natalia Ishchenko in Monday's technical solo final.
Mengual also took silver in both the technical and free duet competitions two years ago in Melbourne and the overall duet event in 2005 in Montreal, both times with former partner Paola Tirados.
In solo and technical events she now has six silver and four bronze medals from the World Championships but never a gold.
champioDavydova was the reigning n at this discipline with her former partner Anastasia Ermakova.
