RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian soccer superstar Roberto Carlos announced on Thursday that he intends on closing out his career in Europe at the end of the 2009 season.
Carlos has played in Europe since 1995 and he hopes to close a deal in the up coming weeks with a Brazilian team.
Carlos has already made known his desire to play with Corinthians, along side Ronaldo, or with Santos, currently led by head coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
"As of today, I would say that my chances of playing with Corinthians are 50 percent, along with 50 percent with Santos. I hope to decide my future by next Tuesday in order to finish my current season with tranquility with Fenerbahce," said Carlos.
Carlos has a slight preference for Santos, for which his father was a die hard fan. The team president of Santos, Marcelo Teixeira, is also a close friend of Carlos.
However, the attraction of playing in the Libertadores Cup with Corinthians is a huge incentive for the midfielder. Friends with Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos will have some serious thinking to do in the next couple of days to finalize his future in 2010.
