SANTIAGO, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The National Association of Professional Soccer of Chile (ANFP) rejected on Friday the possibility of compensating Brazilian soccer club Flamengo after its Chilean forward Claudio Maldonado suffered an injury on Nov. 17 during a match against Slovakia.
"There are rules for these situations and, for example, there are insurances. What they requests is not our obligations and it is not at the rules. We will not do something that it is not a requirement," the ANFP president, Harold Maybe Nichols said.
Maldonado, member of the Chilean soccer national team and also plays for Flamengo, broke the joints of his left knee during the friendly match, and would not be able to play for six months, leading Flamengo to demand the ANFP a compensation.
Flamengo said that if it did not reach an agreement with the ANFP, it will go to the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).
Maldonado will have surgery in his knee on Sunday.
