HONG KONG, Dec.10 (Xinhua) -- Olympic champion Chinese weightlifter Liu Chunhong was determined to defend her 69kg title at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The winner in both Athens and Beijing Olympics said at the sideline of the on-going East Asian Games on Thursday that her goal was for a third Olympic title.
"Of course I will go for my third gold medal at the next Olympics," said the 24-year-old when asked about future plans.
Liu had to settle for the silver medal in Thursday's 69kg competition, losing to Yang Shaoling from Macao, China with a combined weight of 243kg.
Liu lifted 106kg in snatch and 125kg in clean and jerk, far short of her world records of 128kg and 158kg at the Beijing Olympics.
Lu Ying-chi of Chinese Taipei took the bronze medal at 200kg.
Liu cited injuries for her surprise loss.
"I have tried my best here and at the recent World Championships. I have injuries in both my knees and waist," she said, tears in eyes.
Liu said she will go through therapies to recuperate in the winter training, which was expected to begin soon.
