BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- France's Gilles Simon edged past Michael Berrer of Germany 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in 3 hours and 6 minutes on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the China Open.

Two players leveled to enter the tiebreaker in the first set, in which Berrer knocked down two key points to finish 8-6.

After strengthening his backswing and forehand strokes, Simon pulled one set back by converting on the only serve breaking of the second set.

In the decisive set, Simon managed to rally back and prolonged the match into another tiebreak, in which the French dispatched three points in a row after 4-all.
