MANILA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines is confident of wresting gold medals in boxing, billiards and chess in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) said here on Wednesday.
"I am sure that the quality of the athletes is good but I am not sure if their preparation is just as good," Manila Bulletin quoted POC president Jose "Peping" Cojuangco as saying.
Cojuangco is pinning his hopes on the boxers, cue artists and wood pushers, who have time and again have shown their worth in the international arena.
Boxing will have five or six bets to the Nov. 12 to 27 Asian Games, while billiards will be bannered by Efren Reyes and Roberto Gomez and Rubilyn Amit and chess boasts of Wesley So, Cojuangco said after the POC General Assembly at Wack Wack.
In Doha, Philippine boxing came up with two gold medals, while wushu and billiards each had one.
The POC has approved the participation of more than 230 athletes to the coming Asian Games.
