MOSCOW, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The strong Chinese fence team are very likely to get medals in the 2012 London Olympics, President of the Russian Fencing Federation Alexander Mikhailov said on Sunday.
Mikhailov said competition in the Asian region is "fierce", as South Korean and Japanese fencers also show good competitiveness.
"But the Chinese team is one of the strongest and Chinese fencers will win medals in the Olympics," Mikhailov said.
He added that Chinese juniors have been especially strong and they, as reserve forces, would ensure the "sustainable development " of the Chinese fence team.
Mikhailov also highly valued coach of the Russian saber team Christian Bauer, who had been saber coach of the Chinese team.
Guided by Bauer, Chinese Zhong Man won the gold medal in men's saber individual final in 2008 Beijing Olympics, the country's second Olympic fencing gold in 24 years.
The French coach brought "interesting psychological classes" for Russian players, Mikhailov said.
With regards to his expectation to the Russian team, Mikhailov hoped the team could win two golds, two silvers and two bronzes in London.
In Beijing Olympics, Russia claimed the fencing women's foil team title.
