Vasco da Gama had a goal disallowed as Corinthians held the Rio de Janeiro club to a 0-0 draw in their all-Brazilian Copa Libertadores quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Played in driving rain at Rio's Sao Januario Stadium, striker Alecsandro appeared to score the winner when he deflected in Diego Souza's header on 70 minutes only to see linesman Alessandro Rocha raise his flag.
"The idea was to score but the result isn't the worst," Corinthians striker Emerson said after the match.
"Now we can play in front of our fans, on our pitch and it will be completely different. We'll be able to work the ball more and make the most of our strengths."
Vasco and Corinthians will now face each other at Sao Paulo's Pacaembu Stadium next Wednesday for a place in the semifinals.
In Asuncion, Gustavo Lorenzetti's second-half strike earned Universidad de Chile a 1-1 draw with Paraguay's Libertad.
Midfielder Victor Caceres had given the home side the lead with a sliding finish from Luciano Civelli' s cross in the eighth minute.
The teams will meet in Santiago next Thursday for a spot in the competition' s last four.
