PARIS, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Second seed Maria Sharapova beat unheralded Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-2, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of French Open on Wednesday.
The Russian took 74 minutes to roll through her 23rd-seeded opponent, making 19 unforced errors and four double faults.
Sharapova made the semifinals at Roland Garros for the third time. Her next opponet will be fourth seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, who defeated unseeded Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
