LONDON, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Hot-favored Italy brushed aside France 45-22 to meet Russia in the final of women's foil team competition at the Olympic Games on Thursday.
The Italian team, who swept throughout the individual competition winning all the medals at stake, proved to be too strong for France and the Great Britain who lost in the quarterfinals 42-14.
The Italian fencers did not speak to the press after their win.
"My teammates won't speak until the final is over, we are a bit superstitious," said their reserve Llaria Salvatori.
The French fencer Astrid Maitrejean admitted Italy was a better team deserving the win.
"The Italians were just much stronger than us," she said
Russia beat South Korea 44-32 in the other semi-finals. The final will be the repeat of last year's World Championships final where Russia beat Italy.
