As to Houston Rockets'decision to retire the No.11 jersey which used to be owned by Yao Ming, a recent report pubished by some American websites questioned Yao's qualification, pointing out that his achievements on the court was unconvincing.

The article further argued that having the jersey retired was an unrivaled honour for the greatest players. They must have a scintillating career that was unmatchable to anyone who came before them.

It would be unjustifiable to downplay Yao Ming's role as a successful ambassador between NBA and Chinese basketball, the report added. Both the Houston Rockets and NBA had benefited considerably from the Chinese giant who ushered them into the ever-growing, profitable Chinese market.

However, Yao Ming might be less dominating as a player than as an idol. The whole eight seasons with Rockets saw him play merely 486 regular games as he was constantly brought down by injuries. Yao's debut in the Play-offs was unfortunately his last appearance on that stage, and he never made his entry into the ALL-NBA First Team during the whole career.
