Russian pair wins ISU GP crown, Chinese pair ranks third

The ISU Grand Prix (GP) Finals concluded its pairs free skating on Saturday in Sochi with Russian pair snatching the gold medal and the Chinese pair third.

Russian Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov kept a good momentum in the free skating with winning 131.09 points. Totally, they accumulated 204.55 points to continue their unbeaten season, also created their season best result.

Another Russian pair Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov skated clear of major errors as they racked up a total score of 201.60 points with a Spartacus-themed routine. Finally, they secured the silver medal.

The only Chinese pair Pang Qing and Tong Jian, former world champions, had earlier put the Russians under pressure with a season-best score of 192.81, but were forced to settle for the third.

The 2012-13 ISU GP Finals, slated from Friday to Sunday, was held in the Iceberg Skating Palace in Sochi, which will host figure skating in the 2014 Winter Olympics.
