TEHRAN, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Head of Iran's Futsal Committee Reza Eftekhari said that Jesus Candelas Rodrigo had been appointed as the interim coach of Iran futsal team, semi-official Mehr news agency reported on Wednesday.

The 55-year-old Spaniard, who also has coached a number of Spanish futsal teams, was appointed as the technical director of Iran futsal team in September.

"Jesus will coach Iran in two friendlies against Russia. He has been appointed as interim coach of Iran futsal team," Eftekhari was quoted as saying.

Iran, the 10-time Asian champion, was eliminated from the 2012 Futsal World Cup, suffering a 2-1 loss to Colombia in the round of 16 in November.
