Brazil wins over Japan, clinching Women' s World Grand Champions Cup

TOKYO, Nov.17 (Xinhua) -- Olympic champions and World No. 1 Brazil defeated the host country Japan in the final of FIVB World Grand Champions Cup on Sunday at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, winning the title again after 2005.

The South American champions finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record for 15 points, while Japan dropped to 3-2 for 9 points. USA took the silver with a 4-1 record and 10 points.

Fabiana Claudino from Brazil was named the Most Valuable Player of 2013 FIVB World Champions Cup, while Brazilian team got a cheque worth 250,000 dollars as champion.

Fernanda Rodrigues was the top scorer for Brazil with 16 points, while Sheilla Castro had 14. Yuki Ishii was the only Japanese player to get into double figures with 12 points.

It was Brazil' s fourth win against Japan in the Grand Champions Cup against one loss. Overall in FIVB tournaments, Brazil have a 48-12 win-loss record against Japan.

In other matches of the day, Thailand beat Russia by 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-23), winning for the first time in this year's Grand Champions Cup competition. While The United States won over the Dominican Republic by 3-1 (25-14, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18) for the second place.
