NAIROBI, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Jacob Mulee has been appointed the Kenya national football team head coach on a three-year deal, the Football Kenya Federation announced on Wednesday.

The 52-year-old will be making his fifth stint at the Harambee Stars having handled the same team in 2003-2004, a brief spell in 2005, a third time in 2007, and a fourth run in 2010 when he quit following three defeats at the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Tanzania.

"I thank the federation president for having faith in me. We had a very lengthy discussion as to what the ambitions of the Federation are after the elections. After seeing working conditions are favorable I said it is a good thing," Mulee told journalists in Nairobi.

However, Mulee, popularly known as 'Ghost' in the local football circles is best remembered for guiding Stars to the 2004 AFCON finals in Tunisia where they won a single match against Burkina Faso.

Mulee takes over from fellow countryman Francis Kimanzi who replaced Sebastian Migne in August 2019 after the Frenchman guided the Kenyan team to the 2019 AFCON finals in Egypt.

Kimanzi was relieved of his duties on Tuesday alongside his backroom staff just two weeks after Stars saw off Zambia's Chipolopolo 2-1 in an international friendly in Nairobi.

Kenya currently ranked 106 in the latest FIFA rankings and has been drawn against Mali, Rwanda and Uganda for the 2022 World Cup qualifying group set for Qatar. Enditem
