CHENGDU, China, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A clash between two powerhouses saw Inner Mongolia beat Shanghai 77-58 in the eighth round of the Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league here on Friday.

The result snapped Shanghai's four-game winning streak and extended Inner Mongolia's undefeated run to seven games, while also seeing the winners jump from fifth to second in the table.

Inner Mongolia didn't join the league until the 2019-20 season. But with four Chinese internationals on its roster, the sophomores had led the league in points, rebounds, and assists per game before facing Shanghai, and built a solid 25-16 lead in the first quarter thanks to several three-pointers.

After a decisive 15-3 third quarter, Inner Mongolia enlarged their lead to 61-34, putting the result beyond doubt even before the final ten minutes started.

Shooting 16 out of 40 shots from downtown, Inner Mongolia led 48-18 in three-pointers. Chen Liyu contributed five shots from outside the three-point line and put up a game-high 23 points.

In the day's other two games, both Shanxi and Beijing won handsomely, moving past Wuhan 81-64 and Fujian 93-59 respectively. Wuhan remain the only team without a win this season.

Two games remain in the eighth round of WCBA matches. Tianjin is to take on Dongguan, while Shaanxi will play against Xinjiang on Saturday. Enditem
