Panama names nine World Cup players for Japan friendly

PANAMA CITY, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Panama head coach Thomas Christiansen has included nine players from the team's 2018 World Cup campaign in his squad for a friendly against Japan next month.

Survivors from the tournament in Russia are Michael Amir Murillo, Fidel Escobar, Eric Davis, Harold Cummings, Edgar Barcenas, Armando Cooper, Anibal Godoy, Jose Luis Rodriguez and Gabriel Torres, the Panamanian Football Federation (Fepafut) said in a statement on Monday.

"Of the 24 chosen, two play in Panama's top division and the rest abroad," the statement read.

Christiansen, a former Spain international forward, was named Panama's head coach in July, replacing Argentinian manager Americo Gallego.

Panama will face Japan at the Graz Liebenauer stadium in Graz, Austria, on November 13. Fepafut has said it hopes to confirm a second friendly against another opponent at the same venue days later.

Following is the Panama squad:

Goalkeepers: Luis Mejia, Marcos Allen, Orlando Mosquera.

Defenders: Michael Amir Murillo, Cesar Blackman, Fidel Escobar, Andres Andrade, Oscar Linton, Eric Davis and Harold Cummings.

Midfielders: Edgar Barcenas, Adalberto Carrasquilla, Irving Gudino, Armando Cooper, Anibal Godoy, Jose Luis Rodriguez, Omar Browne, Alberto Quintero, Victor Griffith, Abdiel Ayarza and Juan David Tejada.
