RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Reigning Brazilian and Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo sacked manager Domenec Torrent on Monday after less than four months in charge.

The announcement followed Flamengo's 4-0 loss to Atletico Mineiro on Sunday, a result that left the Rio de Janeiro outfit third in the Brazilian Serie A standings.

"Domenec Torrent and his backroom staff are no longer in charge of the first team," Flamengo said in a statement posted on Twitter.

Flamengo won 14, drew four and lost six of their 24 matches under the Spaniard's command.

Mauricio Souza, Flamengo's U-20 boss, will take over as interim manager, starting with the first leg of Flamengo's Copa do Brasil quarterfinal against Sao Paulo at the Maracana stadium on Wednesday.

Local media reported that former Brazil international goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni, currently the manager of Flamengo's Serie A rivals Fortaleza, is among the candidates to fill the vacant role.

Torrent was a member of Pep Guardiola's backroom staff at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City before joining New York City as their head coach in June 2018. He parted ways with the Major League Soccer side last November. Enditem
