Moldovan tennis player Radu Albot beat top seed Denis Shapovalov of Canada 6-2, 6-4 in the second round of the ATP 250 Sofia Open here on Tuesday evening.
Albot, who will turn 31 on Wednesday, is world No. 93. He defeated the 21-year-old Shapovalov in 74 minutes.
In the first round, Albot beat Yuichi Sugita of Japan 6-4, 6-1, while Shapovalov, currently No. 12 in the ATP rankings, started directly in the second round.
Shapovalov told a pre-match press conference that the Moldovan is a very tough opponent. "I think anyone in the draw here is very difficult. Every tournament this year was very strong. Definitely, there are no easy matches," Shapovalov said.
On Monday evening, Czech teenager Jonas Forejtek produced the first big surprise at the tournament, beating former world No. 3 Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-3, 6-2 in the first round.
