MEXICO CITY, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Argentine manager Hernan Cristante has been appointed head coach of Toluca, a year after being sacked by the Liga MX club.

The 51-year-old replaces Carlos Morales, who was named caretaker manager in October following the dismissal of Jose de la Torre.

"New winds are coming and the sails have to be adjusted. People who do not believe in a second chance are those who do not try to do something better when they made a mistake in the first," Cristante told a news conference on Tuesday.

Toluca finished 11th in the 18-team standings at the end of the Liga MX Apertura regular season last month. They were then eliminated from the title race after a 2-1 loss to Tigres UANL in the first week of the playoffs.

The new Liga MX Clausura season will begin on January 10.

"We have to work with the squad that we have. We'll do everything possible so that the team always has a fighting chance and creates problems for rivals," added Cristante.
