LONDON, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's rising star Yan Bingtao came from behind to edge Australia's Neil Robertson 6-5 and reach the quarterfinals of the Snooker Masters on Tuesday.

Yan is playing his first ever match at the Masters, which invites the world's top 16 players to lock horns every year.

The 20-year-old didn't start well as world number two Robertson established a 2-0 lead after breaks of 81 and 121.

Yan managed to level at 3-3, but Robertson then claimed two frames to regain his advantage.

The Chinese hopeful kept calm to fight back again and finally overtook his opponent to win 6-5, setting up a quarterfinal duel with Stephen Maguire.

"I will do the best I can in the next round, but I have already gone beyond my expectations. I will try my best to relax and enjoy the match," Yan told the World Snooker Tour website.

In Tuesday's other first-round match, Maguire defeated Mark Selby 6-3.

China's top player Ding Junhui will face seven-time Masters champion Ronnie O'Sullivan on Wednesday.
