BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Velez Sarsfield suspended two players charged with sexually abusing a woman during a party last December, the Argentine club said on Tuesday.

Defender Miguel Brizuela, 24, and forward Thiago Almada, 19, are under investigation by prosecutors specializing in gender violence in San Isidro, north of capital Buenos Aires.

"Both professionals have been suspended from the first team until their legal situations are resolved. The players will be accompanied by the club's psychology department," Velez said in a statement.

According to Argentina's official Telam news service, the accuser said she was sexually abused by several people during a party in the house of a Velez Sarsfield teammate.

Under Argentina's sexual abuse laws, the players face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of the charges. Enditem
