Ghana, Uganda reach Total U-20 AFCON finals

NOUAKCHOTT, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Ghana and Uganda are qualified Monday for the final of the 22nd edition of Africa U-20 Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana's men's U-20 soccer team, the Black Satellites beat Gambia 1-0 in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Precious Boah's 33rd-minute free-kick handed the Black Satellites the only goal of the game and perfect revenge against the Gambians whom they lost to in their final Group C game at Nouadhibou.

The victory puts the Ghanaians in contention for their fourth AFCON title after they won the U-20 trophy in 1993, 1999, and 2009.

The Black Satellites also won the U-20 world cup trophy in 2009, becoming the only African country to have chalked such a feat.

In the other semifinal, Uganda beat Tunisia 4-1. Striker Richard Basangwa opened scoring four minutes into the game before Kakooza Derrick contributed a hat-trick. Tunisia defender Adam Karim Benlamine was on target in the 38th minute.

Ghana and Uganda will play the final on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Nouakchott Olympic Complex. Enditem
