MEDELLIN, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Former Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin was discharged from hospital on Saturday after an episode of domestic violence in Colombia.

The 34-year-old spent two days at a private clinic in Envigado, near the northwestern city of Medellin, where he received treatment for unspecified injuries.

Local media reported that Guarin would not face criminal charges but had been fined 484,000 Colombian pesos (around 132 U.S. dollars) for violently resisting arrest.

Police were called to the home of Guarin's parents on Thursday (April 1) after he was accused of physically assaulting at least one family member.

Videos posted on social media showed the playmaker arguing with police officers with blood stains on his clothes.

National police chief Jorge Vargas told a news conference that Guarin appeared to be under the influence of "substances that could cause dependency".

Guarin currently plays for Colombian first division side Millonarios. He has been capped 57 times for Colombia's national team in a career that has also included spells with Boca Juniors, Porto, Inter Milan and Shanghai Shenhua, among other clubs. Enditem
