XI'AN, China, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Xi'an will host the 2021 City Wall Marathon, which started in 1993, on Saturday, the organizers announced on Tuesday.

About 4,000 runners will participate in the half-marathon, a 13.7km race, and a 5km race. For the potential runners who can't travel to Xi'an, the organizing committee of the event has also arranged an online competition, with more than 45,000 runners having already signed up.

In order to let more people with disabilities enjoy the sport, the organizing committee invited 100 disabled people to run 1km on the City Wall.

Having been China's ancient capital city for 13 dynasties or empires, Xi'an is rich in historic relics. The City Wall of Xi'an is an extension of the prior Tang dynasty structure. Its construction started in 1370 and was completed in 1378.

The rectangular construction is over four kilometers long from east to west and about three kilometers long from north to south. The total length is 13.7 kilometers.

The competition debuted in 1993. About 4,000 runners took part in the 2020 edition.
