JERUSALEM, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Russian side Khimki Moscow 92-62 in a postponed 24th round game of the Euroleague on Tuesday evening.
The Israeli hosts achieved their 14th victory of the campaign to date from 33 games, while Khimki remains in last place with only four wins and one gameday to go in the regular season.
The rescheduled game was played at the Menorah Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv in front of 3,000 fans, the maximum allowed in large arenas in Israel due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It was postponed from February 4 due to the governmental COVID-19 flight restrictions from Israel meant Khimki could not travel to Tel Aviv.
Maccabi opened a gap of 10 points at the end of the first quarter, 22-12, thanks largely to Scottie Wilbekin.
Ante Zizic and Oz Blayzer led the Israeli team to a 53-25 lead at halftime, securing the win in the early stages of the game.
However, Maccabi did not slow down, and the gap increased to 67-27 in the 23rd minute.
Khimki reduced the deficit slightly to 38-73 by the end of the third quarter, but Maccabi increased again to a peak of 85-44 in the 32nd minute, before the game ended with a gap of 30.
Zizic and Wilbekin scored 13 points each. Dragan Bender added 12 points for Maccabi.
Jordan Mickey led Khimki with a game-high 21 points, with Errick McCollum adding 17 more.
Both teams will end their European season on Friday when Maccabi faces Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia and Khimki plays Olympiacos Piraeus in Greece. Enditem
