BERLIN, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Front runners Bayern Munich dropped points in the title race after Union Berlin's Marcus Ingvartsen canceled out Jama Musiala's opener while second-placed Leipzig crushed Werder Bremen 4-1 to reduce the arrears in the Bundesliga standings at the 28th round on Saturday.

Injury-hit Bayern took the reins from the get-go against passive visitors from the capital.

Union kept all its men behind the ball while the heavily rotated Bavarians gained momentum as Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting forced Berlin's goalkeeper Andreas Luthe twice into action in the opening stages before Thomas Muller wasn't able to make the most of a rebound.

Union produced its first noteworthy chance with 23 minutes gone, but Marius Bulter failed to beat Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer by header despite all time and space inside the box.

Bayern remained in control of the proceedings after the restart as Luthe had to be on guard to deny Jerome Boateng's long-range effort while Leroy Sane pulled over the target from the edge of the box at the hour mark.

The German record champions eventually turned their dominance into a tangible reward with 68 minutes played when Musiala danced through Union's box and overcame Luthe into the bottom right corner.

Hani Flick's men settled too early for all three points, but Union had the last laugh in the closing stages after Robert Andrich's cutback pass found Ingvartsen, who tapped home the equalizer from very close range.

With the result, Bayern Munich remains top of the standings with a five-point advantage, whereas Union continue in seventh place.

Bayern's chaser No. 1 Leipzig reduced the arrears to the front runners after Julian Nagelsmann's men reaped their fifth straight away win with a 4-1 over Werder Bremen.

Bremen's defense stood firm until the half-hour mark, but Kevin Kampl's through ball allowed Dani Olmo to break the deadlock from inside the penalty area.

Leipzig piled on the pressure and added another two goals before the break as Alexander Sorloth wrapped up his brace within nine minutes.

The "Green-Whites" made it 3-1 after halftime as Milot Rashica converted a handball penalty.

It was a short-lived joy, though as Leipzig remained unimpressed and restored its three-goal lead only two minutes later after Marcel Sabitzer marked his seventh goal of the season to seal the deal at the hour mark.

With the 18th win of the campaign, second-placed Leipzig closes the gap to Bayern to five points while Werder stay in 13th.

Elsewhere, ten-men Borussia Monchengladbach came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw at relegation threatened Hertha Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt overpowered Wolfsburg 4-3. Enditem
