RIO DE JANEIRO, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Internacional will hold talks with Paolo Guerrero's representatives this week in a bid to prevent the Peruvian striker from leaving on a free transfer, the Brazilian club said on Monday.

The 37-year-old submitted a written request to terminate his contract on Sunday, citing a "lack of respect" from Internacional officials. A statement issued by Guerrero's agent, Vinicius Prates, said the former Bayern Munich player was unhappy with comments that "put his future at the club in doubt".

Internacional vice president Joao Herrmann denied reports that Guerrero had played his last match for the Porto Alegre club.

"I talk to him daily and he hasn't said anything to me," Herrmann told Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte. "Paolo comes to the club every day. We're going to talk about the situation."

Guerrero's current deal expires on December 31, meaning he is free to sign a pre-contract with another club in July.

The Peru national team captain, who is also his country's all-time leading scorer, has reportedly attracted the interest of Boca Juniors, Atletico Mineiro, Sao Paulo and teams from China.

Guerrero has scored 31 goals in 61 appearances for Internacional since joining the club from Flamengo after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

In March, he played his first game in more than six months after recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Enditem
