BUENOS AIRES, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Argentina's Velez Sarsfield rose to second in the Copa Libertadores Group G standings on Thursday with a 3-1 home victory over Ecuadorian side LDU Quito.

Thiago Almada put the hosts ahead on the stroke of halftime before Lucas Janson and Federico Mancuello added second half goals.

Matias Zunino was on target for the visitors, who were reduced to 10 men in the 87th minute when Lucas Piovi was shown a straight red card for a harsh tackle on Janson.

Velez now have six points from four matches - four points behind group leaders Flamengo - while LDU Quito are third, two points further back.

In other Copa Libertadores fixtures on Thursday, Olimpia won 2-1 at Always Ready and Atletico Mineiro prevailed 3-1 at America de Cali. Enditem
