RIO DE JANEIRO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Defending champions Palmeiras scored four second-half goals to cruise to a 6-0 home win over Peru's Universitario in their final Copa Libertadores Group A match on Thursday.

Matias Vina and Ze Rafael scored just before halftime before Gustavo Gomez, Willian Siqueira and a late Rony Barbosa brace piled further misery on the visitors in the second half.

The result meant the Brazilian side finished top of the group with five wins and one loss, six points clear of second-placed Defensa y Justicia of Argentina. Universitario bowed out of the tournament in last spot with four points from their six group matches.

Rio de Janeiro giants Flamengo also clinched first position in their group despite being held to a goalless home draw by Argentine side Velez Sarsfield.

Flamengo ended the tournament's first stage with 12 points from six games, two points ahead of Velez.

Elsewhere on Thursday, LDU Quito won 5-2 at home to Union Calera in a battle between two rivals that were already eliminated and Defensa Justicia were held to a 1-1 home draw by Independiente del Valle. Enditem
