BERLIN, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich extended their lead atop the standings for the moment after first-half goals from Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich paved the way for the fifth win at the curtain raiser of the sixth round in Bundesliga on Friday.

The German record champions gained the upper hand from the kickoff and didn't need long to break the deadlock as Muller collected a loose ball inside the box to slot the ball past Furth goalkeeper Sascha Burchert with 10 minutes gone.

Bundesliga newcomers Furth responded well but lacked in penetration to threaten Bayern's defence in the opening stages.

The front-runners remained in control of the proceedings and doubled their advantage at the half-hour mark when Leroy Sane's square pass allowed Kimmich to make it two from the edge of the box.

Furth's best chance came in the closing stages of the first half when unmarked Paul Seguin missed a dangerous corner kick to the far post.

After the restart, the dismissal of Benjamin Pavard, for a professional foul on Julian Green, handed the hosts a chance to turn things around early in the second half.

Furth reaped their best chance with the subsequent free kick in the 50th minute when Branimir Hrgota forced Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer into action.

Even though the visitors had one man less on the pitch, Bayern tripled their lead after Sebastian Griesbeck cleared a cross from Kimmich into the wrong goal in the 68th minute.

Furth pressed for its consolation goal and got rewarded in the dying minutes of the game when Cedric Itten nodded home Timothy Tilman's cross.

With the result, Bayern Munich open a three-point advantage atop the standings while Greuther Furth remain on the last spot of the standings after suffering their fifth defeat.

"At the end of the day it is important that we have won here. Although we played with ten-men in the second half, we prevented Furth from creating a lot of chances. We scored three goals and we stay in front and that's what counts," Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann said.

Saturday will see Bayer Leverkusen take on Mainz, Eintracht Frankfurt host Cologne, Union Berlin clash with Armenia Bielefeld, Hoffenheim meet runner-up Wolfsburg, Leipzig host Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach encounter Borussia Dortmund. Enditem
