RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Victor Cantillo struck a late winner as Corinthians continued their late-season resurgence with a 1-0 home win over Fortaleza in Brazil's Serie A championship on Saturday.

Cantillo broke the deadlock in the 87th minute when he capitalized on Jo's hold-up play to surge into the box and fire a 16-yard shot past goalkeeper Marcelo Boeck.

The Sao Paulo outfit now have 47 points from 30 matches and are sixth in the 20-team standings, just two points behind fourth-placed Bragantino. Fortaleza are fifth with 48 points, having lost their past two games.

Meanwhile, former Brazil international midfielder Taison scored a first-half goal to hand Internacional a 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Gremio in the Porto Alegre derby.

The match ended in unsightly fashion when a melee broke out involving players and officials from both teams. Internacional midfielder Patrick Nascimento was shown a red card for goading Gremio fans after the final whistle while Gremio defender Bruno Cortez was dismissed for violent conduct. Enditem
