MADRID, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- LaLiga strugglers Elche sacked coach Fran Escriba on Sunday night less than an hour after losing 3-0 at home to Betis.
The result leaves Elche third from bottom of LaLiga with 11 points from 13 games after a run of six games without a win, stretching back to October 3.
"Elche Football Club wishes to communicate that the decision has been taken to relieve Fran Escriba from his position as first-team coach. The club wishes to thank the coach for his work and in his second period at the green and whites, as well as valuing his importance in the club's history," the club announced in a statement.
Escriba led Elche to promotion to LaLiga in 2013 but left the club after it was relegated for financial irregularities in 2015.
He returned to the club in February of this year and saved them from relegation with a 2-0 win at home to Athletic Club on the last day of the 2020-2021 season, but results have gone against them after a decent start to the current campaign.
