BERLIN, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Hertha Berlin parted ways with head coach Pal Dardai and appointed Tayfun Korkut until the end of the season, the Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Monday.

Dardai has been relieved from all his duties with immediate effect after Hertha remains in touching distance to the relegation zone following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Augsburg, who snatched a last-gasp equalizer on the road.

"We would like to express our thanks to Pal Dardai for his work. He took the team over in a difficult situation last season and maintained the topflight status under challenging circumstances," Hertha sporting director Fredi Bobic said.

The 45-year-old coach took the helm for the second time in January 2021 but four wins, two draws and seven defeats weren't enough for those responsible at Hertha. Dardai is now Hertha's fifth coach in the last two and a half years.

Korkut has been appointed and will take over until the end of the current campaign.

"With Tayfun Korkut we would like to give the team a new impetus and input. Tayfun has already proven in the past that he cannot only stabilize a team but also develop it with his meticulous and passionate work," Bobic added.

Korkut knows the Bundesliga business as he already coached Hannover, Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen.

"I would like to thank Fredi Bobic and everyone else in charge at Hertha for their trust. I am full of energy, and I am really looking forward to this exciting task," Korkut said.

On Sunday, 14th-placed Hertha Berlin clashes with 15th-positioned Stuttgart to conclude the 14th round. Enditem
