Sina Elite League International 3x3 Invitational Tournament to Inaugurate in Beijing in December 2018

BEIJING - Sina Sports will launch the first edition of the Sina Elite League (SEL) international 3x3 basketball invitational tournament on December 15-17, 2018 at M Space in Beijing, China. The 3-day, 16 team tournament will feature some of the best FIBA 3x3 players and teams in the world including: the top two FIBA-ranked teams Novi Sad Al-Wahda from the UAE and Liman from Serbia; the 3BALL New Yorkies, champions of 3Ball USA Showcase; the top five teams from the Sina 3x3 Golden League Finals 2018; and other elite teams from 11 countries including Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, the Philippines, Russia, and Taiwan.

“After four seasons of development, Sina 3X3 Golden League has become the world’s largest 3x3 basketball event. Now Sina Elite League is introducing a top-level China-based sports showcase to the world.” said Arthur Wei, Senior Vice President of Sina and General Manager of Sina Sports. “The participating teams represent the highest level of the world's 3x3 basketball, not only the top 8 players in the world, but also some of the best teams from 11 countries and regions to participate. It is also worth mentioning that many of the players will have a chance to represent their countries in the Tokyo Olympics in two years. Sina Elite League represents an opportunity for them to compete against the best in the world.”

The premier event is scheduled to be streamed live on Sina Sports Weibo accounts with over 23 million followers. Additionally, the Final day of the event will be broadcast on domestic and international TV. The event in its entirety will also be streamed in China on Sina Sports and other digital platforms.

Novi Sad Al-Wahda is the #1 team in the world according to FIBA and has won four gold medals and one silver. The captain, Dusan Bulut, who won the FIBA 3x3 World Cup MVP twice in 2016 and 2018, is considered the best 3x3 player in the world. This world #1 team will represent the United Arab Emirates in the Sina Elite League.

Liman, the world’s #2 team according to FIBA, was the champions of 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Tour - Chengdu Stop and Wuxi Stop, and the runner-up of Huai’an Stop. Stefan Stojacic, Mihailo Vasic, and Aleksandar Ratkov are ranked #2, 3 and 4, respectively by FIBA. Liman will represent Serbia in the Sina Elite League.

The 3BALL New Yorkies, who defeated Novi Sad Al-Wahda and became champions of 3Ball USA Showcase earlier this year, will represent the USA at Sina Elite League. Golden State Warrior forward Alfonzo Mckinnie was discovered by NBA scouts while playing 3x3 for 3BALL USA. In 2016, Alfonzo’s 3BALL USA team won the USA Basketball 3x3 National Championships and earned the silver medal at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup.

All top five teams of 2018 Sina 3x3 Golden League Finals are going to represent China in the tournament. After seven months, 82 cities, 63,000 participants, No Who Who team from Beijing, the champions from last season retained their title in the 3x3 Golden League Finals.
