2019 Wukesong Basketball Development Forum Held Successfully

May 28th, 2019. BEIJING – 2019 Wukesong Basketball Development Forum, themed “Basketball Bridges the World”, was inaugurated at Bloomage Live Wukesong·M-Space on May 28th. As one of the events in the branch venue of 2019 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), this forum was hosted by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform and Beijing Haidian District People’s Government and was organized by Sina Sports and Bloomage International. More than 300 guests, including athletes, media, experts and representatives of basketball organizations, sports governing bodies, clubs and commercial brands, gathered together to discuss the future development trends of basketball.

Strong Leaders to be a Major Force in Basketball

The main topics of CIFTIS this year cover the areas of technology, culture, health, and commerce. With the theme “Openness, Innovation, Wisdom and Convergence”, it aims to become a platform to promote economic development and showcase national reputation. “Wukesong Basketball Development Forum” as an important part of its culture and health division, is made up of three main sections, namely keynote speech, signing ceremony and roundtable dialogue. In depth discussion on topics such as future development and market of basketball industry, paves the way for the 2018 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the future of Chinese sports industry.

Leaders presence include: Wang Xuan, Executive Vice-President and Secretary General of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Party Secretary of the Basketball Administration Centre under General Administration of Sports of China; Yao Ming, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 global ambassador and Chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA); Ingo Weiss, FIBA Treasurer; Guillemette Juilliart, FIBA Senior Manager Officer; Yin Hao, Managing Director of the FIBA China Office; Chen Jie, Vice Director- General of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 LOC and Vice Director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports; Chen Shuang, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal People's Government Office in Haidian district; Shang Guanwei, Assistant of Director of the Beijing Municipal People’s Government Office in Haidian district; Li Fangdong, Director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform; Zhang Yanxiang, Director of Beijing Municipal Haidian District Bureau of Sports; Sun Guohua, Chairman of Beijing Basketball Association; Zhao Yan, Chairwoman of Bloomage International; Arthur Wei, Senior Vice President of Sina and General Manager of Sina Sports; Li Ke, basketball commentator; Chen Lei, former captain of Beijing Ducks and head coach of CUBA Tsing Hua men’s basketball team; and representatives of Venucia, Qiaodan Sports, Master Kong and various sponsors of basketball tournaments and executives of sports media. Their keynote speeches covered the topics on industrial policy, game operations, sports marketing and media matrix.

Opinion Leaders Shed Lights on New Basketball Industry Trends

Chen Shuang, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal People's Government Office in Haidian district, addressed in his opening remarks that basketball has gradually grown into a sport with great influence on the industry and culture in conjunction of the FIBA World Cup this year. He expressed his hope to upgrade the overall economic growth of basketball industry in Haidian district with the lead of basketball industry.

This year is FIBA World Cup first debut in China, Wang Xuan, as the Executive Vice-President and Secretary General of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Party Secretary of the Basketball Administration Center under General Administration of Sports of China, expressed his belief that Chinese basketball industry will have a bright future, through patience and joint efforts of generations of basketball players.

FIBA treasurer, Ingo Weiss, was also present in Wukesong Basketball Development Forum, where he had provided insightful suggestions for China’s basketball industry to merge with the trajectory of the international development based on his personal experiences. He expressed his hope to forge basketball into the most popular sport not only in China, but also globally with FIBA World Cup as a juncture for sustained development of basketball industry.

Zhao Yan, the Chairwoman of Bloomage International, delivered her speech on the topic of “from the Olympics to the World Cup, Wukesong Being the Landmark of Basketball Industry”, and provided actual cases study on the complimentary relationship between the development of basketball industry, facilities and cultural infrastructure. “Basketball as a medium of Olympic Spirit, assisting sustainable coordinated development of Jingjinji.”

Arthur Wei, Senior Vice President of Sina and General Manager of Sina Sports addressed his topics on “Commercial Value and Social Significance of Basketball Tournament Development” and shared how Sina 3x3 Golden League grew from the original 9 cities to the world’s largest 3x3 basketball competition covering 150 cities and 120k participants in 5 years. He expressed Sina Sports vision to allow more Chinese, especially youth to partake in sports, educating through sports.

Roundtable Dialogue on Prospects of Basketball

In the subsequent two sessions of roundtable dialogue with the topic of “Prospects created by the FIBA World Cup” and “Basketball Industry Development to Boost Consumption”, guests have jointly discussed the prospects of future development and possibility of creating gearter values in the basketball industry.

Yao Ming, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 global ambassador and Chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), Sun Guohua, Chairman of Beijing Basketball Association, Zhao Feng, General Manager of China of Infront Sports & Media, Jing Fei, Vice President of Bloomage International, Xu Zhengxian, Chairman of Taiwan Sports Industry Development Association, from the perspective of their respective fields have shared their views regarding Chinese basketball’s copyrights development, competition standards and media management, to draw on the experience of world-class competitions and the benefits brought by the FIBA world cup.

Additionally, during the session of “Basketball Industry Development to Boost Consumption”, Arthur Wei along with Lu Hao, Chairman of Starz Sports, Ding Renhai, CEO of Youcan, Dai Fuqi, CEO of Rucker Park, Zhu Kai, Chairman of Renmin Tiyu, and Li Hong Liang, Vice President of DDMC Group, shared their experiences and challenges to achieve consumption upgrade. Elaborating on the topic of “consumption upgrade”, much fruitful dialogue has occurred regarding different aspects from domestic institutions, foreign experiences and future prospects.

Signing Ceremony to Construct Brand New Blueprint of Basketball Recourses

During the forum three signing ceremonies valued over 100 million RMB were successfully held. The sponsorship deal between Sina 3x3 Golden League and Venucia was successfully signed by Xiong Faming, Deputy Head of Venucia Marketing Department, Lin Youxun, Senior Director of Brand Management of Qiaodan Sports, Wang Chao, Master Kong Beverages Integrated Marketing Promotion and Zhan Sheng, Editor-in-Chief of Sina Sports.

Additionally, Chu Guangping, CEO of Sports Centre of Bloomage International, and; Chen Jie, Vice Director- General of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 LOC and Vice Director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports have also signed the partnership deal of Bloomage International and 2019 FIBA World Cup Organizing Committee. And Wen Sijun, President of the Youth Federation of Haidian District, Cao Yuming, Chairman of Haidian District Wenlüti Group, Xu Zhengxian, Chairman of Taiwan Sports Industry Development Association, and Huang Chenghan, Account Manager of Taiwan of ESPN Star Sports, General Manager of Body Marketing have signed a MoU for the Beijing – Taiwan Youth Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The economic transformation and consumption upgrade has made the sports industry become a highly anticipated new consumption, and the basketball industry is becoming one of the leading giants. In 2019, the Wukesong Basketball Development Forum combines the insights of many industrial leaders.
