Roddick, Agassi advance at Rome Masters

Top-seeded Andy Roddick has advanced to the second round of the Rome Masters.(AFP photo)BEIJING, May 3-- Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi have waltzed into the second round of the Rome Masters after comfortable opening day victories.

Top seed Roddick defeated Britain's Greg Rusedski 6-4, 6-2, while his fellow American Agassi, who won the Rome Masters title in 2002, upset Italian qualifier Alessio Di Mauro 7-5, 6-2.

Roddick will play Albert Costa in round two after the Spaniard knocked out compatriot Albert Montanes.

Agassi, will meet Richard Gasquet, who ended world number one Roger Federer's 25-match winning run in Monte Carlo last month.

British fourth seed Tim Henman also won his first round match, cruising to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten.

The Rome Masters, a warm-up for the French Open which starts on May 23, is the fourth of nine ATP Masters Series tournaments and one of its three clay court events.
