Li Na advances to 3rd Round at French Open, Peng quits

BEIJING, June 1 -- Chinese veteran Li Na has marched into the French Open third round with a 7-5, 6-3 win against Russian 27th seed Anna Chakvetadze.

Li's compatriot Sun Tiantian, however, suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Czech 16th seed Nicole Vaidisova.

Chinese rising star Peng Shuai was forced to retire from the tournament due to injury trailing Croatian Karolina Sprem 6-4, 4-3.

In women's doubles, Australian Open champions Zheng Jie and Yan Zi, fourth seed of the tournament, stunned American Carly Gullickson and Australian Bryanne Stewart 6-2, 6-4 to enter the second round.

China's Yuan Meng teamed up with Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova to sweep their Belarussian rivals 6-3, 6-0.
