BEIJING, Oct. 2 -- China's Wang Lei has captured the country's first gold medal at the ongoing Fencing World Championships in Turin, Italy.

The Athens Olympic silver medalist climbed from one point behind to lead the first bout 2-1 against his Portuguese opponent in the men's epee event.

The two swordsmen went head-to-head in the second bout, each winning one point.

Again in the third and decisive bout, they traded the lead four times before the Portuguese swordsman tied the scores at five each and brought the match into prolongation.

Wang Lei remained cool and calm and took the initiative only 15 seconds into the one-minute prolongation to win the decisive point as well as the match.

It's Wang's first world title.
