QIQIHAR, Northeast China, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Wu Jialiang clinched the gold medal in free skating men's singles at the 11th National Winter Games being held here on Sunday.

Wu won the title with a score of 133.78 points, followed by Xu Ming and Guan Jinlin in the second and third places with respective scores of 133.07 and 130.06.

"I did not expect to claim the title in today's event. I just want to win more scores through increasing difficulty of my actions during the performance, but I still have some shortcoming in speed and feet movement," the champion told reporters after the offcial results were announced.

"I am not so satisfied with my performance though I was crowned in the event," the 22-year-old athlete added.

The skater, who represents Harbin, capital city of Heilongjiang province, pocketed one gold in short program on Saturday.

In today's event, a total of 18 athletes contested on the ice rink. Both the silver and bronze medalists are from the host city Qiqihar, the second largest city of Heilongjiang province.

Another thing to note is that during Sunday's performances, several young players fell on ice. Li Chengjiang, one of title favorites for the gold medal, got only 126.56 points due to two falls during his five-minute performance.
