Olympic flame handed over to Beijing Olympic organizers

ATHENS, March 30 (Xinhua) -- The Olympic flame was handed over to Liu Qi, president of the Beijing Organizing Committee of the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG), at a grand ceremony held in the marble Panathenian stadium here on Sunday.

Minos Kyriakou, president of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, delivered the flame to Liu in front of thousands of spectators.

The flame, which was lighted in Ancient Olympia on Sunday, entered Athens on Saturday after a six-day relay journey in Greece.

The torch is to arrive March 31 in Beijing on a purpose-fitted airliner.
