Bird's Nest to host 1st test event

BEIJING, April 12 -- The most-anticipated venue for the Beijing Olympic Games, the National Stadium better known as the Bird's Nest will be ready for its very first test event next week.

"The Good Luck Beijing" Race Walking Challenge will take place at the National Stadium on April the 18th and 19th. There will be three events: the men's 20-kilometer, 50-kilometer and women's 20 kilometer race.

138 athletes from 10 countries will test the Bird's Nest for the first time and spectators can also attend to see what's inside the gigantic steel structure. The stadium will be fully completed later this month because equipment for the opening ceremony is still being installed.
