Chinese divers shine in Mexico with six golds

GUANAJUATO, Mexico, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Powerhouse China completed the last leg of the Diving World Series with six gold medals after an impressive competition between China's Qiu Bo and British Thomas Daley.

At the men's 10m platform, last event of the two-day Mexico leg, Daley had a perfect start and was very aggressive with his dive of 109C (forward 4.5 somersault tuck), which received 105.45 points.

But Chinese diver Qiu succeeded to withstand the pressure and produced more flawless dives. His fourth dive 207B (back 3.5 somersault pike) received scores of 10 from all of the judges. In the last attempt Qiu assured himself gold with another score more than 100.

So far Qiu Bo swept all seven golds in two diving world series seasons.

Earlier in the afternoon, Chinese young pair Chen Ruolin/Wang Hao got the fifth title for China at the Mexico leg by winning the women' s synchro 10m platform final. It is also their fourth straight victory in this world series season.

China's He Zi led without hesitation in the women's 3m springboard final and took her second gold at Guanajuato Leg in Mexico with 385.05 points. He Zi grabbed the women's synchro 3m springboard title with her partner Wu Minxia here yesterday.

After the competition, He told Xinhua that for her the Diving World Series was a good chance to accumulate experience, helping her do better during the next competitons.

At the men's synchro 3m springboard event, Mexico's pair Yahel Castillo/ Alejandro Islas Arroyo did not disappoint their fans at home by winning the second gold medal for Mexico at the last leg.

They received 437.07 points in total to beat the rival the United States' pair of Troy Dumais/ Kristian Ipsen. The bronze went to Ukraine's pair Oleksiy Prygorov/Illya Kvasha, who received 410.58 points. The Chinese divers Qin Kai and Luo Yutong did not participate in this event, who were crowned in the previous three legs in the same category.

The two-day 2011 FINA World Diving Series event in Guanajuato, Mexico kicked off on Friday and has featured 69 divers from 13 countries and regions.

The FINA Diving World Series began in 2007 as a high-profile, annual competition series that gives the world's best divers the opportunity to compete against each other on a regular basis.

The FINA/Midea Diving World Series 2011 consists of four legs - Moscow, Beijing, Shefield and Guanajuato this year.
