Premier Wen Jiabao meets HKSAR chief executive

BEIJING, March 6(Xinhuanet)-- Premier Wen Jiabao met with Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(SAR) government here on Sunday.

Tung is attending the Third Session of the Tenth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC) as a member and also the Third Session of the Tenth National People's Congress(NPC) as a non-voting participant.

Wen greatly appreciated the work of HKSAR government and its chief executive after hearing Tung's report on the situation of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has managed to recover its economy and maintain a stable society thanks to joint efforts made by the HKSAR government and Hong Kong people, Wen said, adding he hopes the people from all circles in Hong Kong will cherish the situation achieved through painstaking efforts and will work together for further development.

The central government will stick to the principle of"One Country, Two Systems," strictly follow the Basic Law of the HKSAR,push forwards the economic cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland and contribute to the prosperity and development of Hong Kong, Wen said.

Present at the meeting were Vice Premier Wu Yi and other senior officials including Tang Jiaxuan, Hua Jianmin and Liao Hui.
