Top Chinese medicine maker builds Hong Kong base

HONG KONG, April 22(Xinhuanet)-- Beijing Tong Ren Tang Chinese Medicine Company, the leading Chinese medicine manufacturer in China, held a ground breaking ceremony Friday for its production base in Hong Kong, the first one outside Chinese mainland.

Tong Ren Tang has invested 150 million Hong Kong dollars purchasing a industrial land of 11,700 square meters for its production base in Tai Po industrial Estate of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. The initial design and pre-construction work began early this year and expected to be completed in July 2006.

The plant will produce eight forms of Chinese drugs with an estimated production value of 200 million Hong Kong dollars when starts operation.

Tong Ren Tang's focus in Hong Kong is to build a manufacturing base for Chinese medicines and to conduct Chinese medicine research and development.

The Chinese medicine manufacturer said it will make full use ofHong Kong's advantage in technology, finance, geography and government policies to enhance its technology capacity and developnew forms of drugs for the global market. Enditem
