HONG KONG, June 2(Xinhuanet)-- Donald Tsang's decision to be a candidate for the post of Chief Executive(CE) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HKSAR) accords with Hong Kong's public opinion, said a leading official of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong on Thursday.
Li Gang, deputy director of the Liaison Office, made the remarks while attending a gathering and answering questions raisedby reporters Thursday evening.
He said since Tsang expressed his intention to run for the CE election on May 25, Hong Kong's social response has been warm and positive.
Li said Tsang has rich administrative experience and has enjoyed a quite high support rating, and stressed that Tsang's decision accords with the public opinion.
He said he believed that the Hong Kong public will make a fair assessment on Tsang's speech delivered Thursday afternoon, which is part of his campaign.
Tsang announced his decision to run for HK's top leader election Thursday afternoon and announced his policy blueprint forthe next two years if he is elected. Earlier, the State Council accepted his resignation from the post of Hong Kong Chief Secretary for Administration.
Tsang, who became Hong Kong's Acting Chief Executive in March, tendered his resignation on May 25 to prepare for the CE election.Enditem
