HONG KONG, Jun 6 (AP) -- Hong Kong police have arrested a 31-year-old man suspected of placing two fake bombs on a sidewalk in a busy shopping district popular with tourists, police said.

The man was arrested Sunday at a home and "relevant documents related to the incident" were found in the residence, police said. The documents were not described.

The man was suspected of placing two suspicious boxes on the pavement last Friday outside a shop in Tsim Sha Tsui, police said. The boxes contained warnings, which police did not describe.

People convicted of bomb hoaxes can be sentenced to five years in prison and fined 150,000 Hong Kong dollars (US$19,274; €15,747), police said.
