HONG KONG, Aug 18 (AP) -- A host of Hong Kong celebrities including Jackie Chan and Chow Yun-fat have been invited to attend celebrations at Hong Kong Disneyland before it opens on Sept.12, according to a local newspaper report.
The starry line-up will also boast actress Michelle Yeoh -- soon to be seen in "Memoirs of a Geisha" -- as well as Canto-pop stars Joey Yung and Kelly Chen, the Oriental Daily News reported Thursday.
Julie Andrews, who starred in the 1964 Walt Disney Co. movie "Mary Poppins," will also arrive in town before Sept.10, the paper reported. On Sept.10 the celebrities will attend a red carpet ceremony then check into the theme park's Hollywood Hotel, the report said, adding that the stars can try out the rides on Sept.11, which will be VIP day.
But Canto-pop singers from Warner Music Group Corp. have not received invitations, the report said. A spokeswoman for Warner, Carmen Lau, confirmed the report but said the company's stars may have been notified by Disney through other means.
Details of the pre-opening celebrations have not been announced, said Esther Wong, spokeswoman for Hong Kong Disneyland. She declined to comment on the report.
