HONG KONG, Sept 9 (AP) -- Tickets for South Korean pop star Rain's upcoming Hong Kong concerts sold out within an hour and some were later up for sale on the Internet for five times the listed price, a newspaper reported Friday.
The concert organizers are hoping to add a third date to the Oct. 8 and Oct. 9 shows, Ming Pao Daily News reported.
Tickets priced at 580 Hong Kong dollars (US$75; €60) were being auctioned on the Internet with minimum bids set at HK$3,000 (US$385; €310), the report said. Other fans, reluctant to stand in line at ticket outlets, paid as much as HK$500 (US$64; €52) extra per ticket to have other people queue on their behalf, it said.
Rain, known as the "Michael Jackson of Korea" for his dancing skills, was greeted by 1,000 fans at the Hong Kong airport when he came here in July to promote his new album, "It's Raining."
A woman answering calls on HK Ticketing's hot line confirmed that the Rain concerts sold out Thursday.
Hong Kongers have become increasingly enamored with South Korean popular culture. Rain and South Korean actress Lee Young-ae draw much attention, while the South Korean TV series "Dae Jang Geum" was a big hit in the territory.
