Funeral of former liaison officer held in Macao

MACAO, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- The funeral of Ke Zhengping, a former liaison officer of China's central government in Macao, was held here Thursday.

Liao Hui, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, and other officials from the central and local governments and representatives of all walks of Macao's social lives attended the funeral.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and officials of the central government sent telegrams of condolences to Ke's family.

Ke acted as the representative of the central government during the period when China and Portugal conducted negotiations over Macao's returning to the motherland.

He passed away in Macao on Sept. 30, 2005, at the age of 94.
